Bells & Whistles PR are excited to announce that Escape to the Chateau, following the lives of our clients Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree as they fulfil their dream of a better life in France, is back for a second series.
Starting on Sunday 27th November at 8pm on Channel 4, the new three-part series shows how Dick, Angel and their family are settling into the French way of life, 18 months down the line. The reality of buying a 19th century chateau with 45 rooms, a moat, walled garden and seven outbuildings continues to settle in and now they face the biggest challenge of their lives; how are they going to afford to keep their French dream alive?
In episode one, engineer and TV presenter, Dick Strawbridge (Scrapheap Challenge, Coast, Celebrity Masterchef, Hungry Sailors) and his wife, the vintage-clad entrepreneur and best-selling author, Angel Adoree (Dragons’ Den, The Vintage Tea Party book series), launch their wedding venue business as they host the fairytale nuptials of British couple, Charlotte and Richard.
Retired army colonel and inveterate inventor Dick is busy constructing a pig roaster out of a 1960s oil tank. His passion for sustainability sees the addition of a compost toilet, solar panels, and a bountiful supply of home-grown produce in the burgeoning walled garden.
Entrepreneur Angel is also getting her ‘craft on’, with numerous DIY projects including customising the doors of their new cloakroom - “a mini Versailles” - complete with a stuffed aviary, as well as re-upholstering 80 charity shop chairs for their impending wedding party.
The chateau continues to adapt and change with the eccentricities of its new owners; the installation of a space age lift in the west tower to increase accessibility has created the “Tower of Curiosities” and allowed Angel to indulge her obsession with all things old and odd.
Dick and Angel work flat out with their on-going renovation as they endeavour to transform the chateau into a thriving business whilst maintaining a degree of normality for their family. As if that’s not enough, 3-year-old Arthur starts school the day before their first major event. Integrating with the community and learning the lingo has suddenly become more important than ever.
As autumn turns to winter they realise they’ve hardly scratched the surface. But this doesn’t dampen their spirit. Dick’s been fattening turkeys for months and Angel makes the time to turn the chateau into a winter wonderland - can Dick find a big enough Christmas tree?!
Series 2 of Escape to the Chateau starts on Sunday, 27th November at 8pm. Episode two is 4th December and episode three, a Christmas special, on 11th December.
